In Psalm 19:14, David prays, "Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O LORD, my rock and my redeemer." This connection between our mouth and our heart is important, so important that Jesus says, "For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. The good person out of his good treasure brings forth good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure brings forth evil....For what comes out of the mouth proceeds from the heart" (Matt 12:34b-35; 15:18a). This connection between our mouth and our heart is also addressed by Paul in Romans, "If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved" (Rom 10:9-10).

Do you believe in your heart that Jesus has been raised from the dead? Is this your meditation? Have you made the confession with your mouth that Jesus is Lord? Are these your words?

We live in a world that tells us to follow our heart and to speak our truth. Let me say clearly, that the words of our mouth and meditation of our hearts will never be acceptable to God if we follow our own heart and speak our own truth. It is in Christ alone that our hearts are made new and our words become true. It is in Christ alone, our rock and redeemer, that we become acceptable in God's sight.

May the words of our mouths and meditations of our hearts be acceptable in your sight, O LORD, our rock and redeemer!

Grace and Peace,
